School Prince
Dirk X Reader
Commissioned by WarriorOfNight

Damn it, damn it, damn it! You raced down the hall, occasionally glancing at your watch. You were currently running late to a student council meeting. Considering that there were only six people on student council, your tardiness would definitely be noticed.

You briefly wondered why Skaia High's student council was so small, but the question of how you managed to get on student council in the first place quickly replaced it. Sure, you had wanted the job, but you couldn't remember running. Maybe if you weren't one of the least popular girls in school this would be a normal thing, but considering the fact that no one seemed to notice you, it was pretty freaking weird.

You were so caught up in your thoughts you didn't notice the hallway getting more populated. That is, until you ran right into someone's chest. The force of the hit sent both of you toppling to the ground. The boy held you tightly, protecting you from the brunt of the fall.

"Woah there, you alright?" he drawled.

Ignoring the whispers from the other students, you slowly separated yourself from the boy's muscular chest to gaze at his face. Your breath caught in your throat when you recognized him.

You had just run over Dirk Strider, the most popular boy in Skaia High. With a squeak you sprang to your feet and dashed down the hall, an embarrassed blush staining your cheeks. Oh god, everyone saw that...

Dirk was the prince of the school. Girls wanted to be with him, guys wanted to be him, the usual. Since he was a grade ahead of you, you rarely saw the spiky haired boy. You had never talked to him, though now that you thought about it, he did look weirdly familiar...

You slammed the student council room behind you as you entered. Your fellow council members glanced at you from their position around a large desk. Jane frowned at your disheveled appearance and beckoned you to a chair.

"Golly {Name}, what happened? You look like you just ran a marathon!" She exclaimed.

You sank into your seat with a sigh. "It's no biggie... hopefully." you muttered.

Andy raised an eyebrow and adjusted his thick glasses. "'Hopefully'? What does that mean?" he asked.

Mina shushed the somewhat-blind boy and offered you a bottle of water. This you accepted gratefully. Jane's frown deepened and she crossed her arms.

"Come on, spill! It's obviously something big, so what's got your panties all in a twist?" Ashe's voice demanded. The messy haired youth emerged from the closet and sent you a questioning look.

Jane rolled her eyes at his language. "Ashe's right, {Name}. If something's bothering you, it would be better to talk to us about it, wouldn't it?"

Her motherly voice helped calm your somewhat frayed nerves. You sighed softly. "I just ran into Dirk Strider in the hall" Your voice faded to a whisper, "and kinda knocked him over."

For a moment there was silence. Then Andy began laughing maniacally. "Oh man, you took down a Strider? That's fucking great! I wish I'd seen that!"

Mina smacked him upside the head and turned to you. "Oh sweetie, I'm sure it'll be alright. I mean, it was just an accident. Who really cares?" she said encouragingly.

Jane shook her head. "Gosh, I'd agree with Mina if it wasn't Dirk Strider! You know if he doesn't do anything, his fan club will! I mean... gadzooks."

You swallowed nervously and glanced at Ashe. He remained silent, a small smirk on his face. He was obviously as amused as Andy, though he was better at hiding it from Mina and her fists.

"Well, I'd better apologize, huh? That'd probably be the safest thing to do," You sighed and glanced around the room, finally noticing that there were only five council members present. "Um, guys? Where's Rose?"

Everyone shared a sheepish look. "We sent her to look for you, since you were late and didn't answer our texts," Mina admitted.

You snorted. Well, this meeting was just going fantastically.

~~~
Since most of the meeting had been spent looking for Rose, nothing really got done. So now you were wandering the halls, looking for Dirk before you went home. Just like every day, no one was paying you any attention. Whether that was a good thing or not was debatable, since people were constantly getting in your way and not apologizing.
This is going no where...  You were about to give up when you spotted an iconic head of spiky hair.  You hurried to his side, relieved to see that he was actually alone for once. No fangirls or friends surrounding him. Just Dirk, though the hall was a bit crowded. But it could have been worse. It could always be worse. Taking a steadying breath, you tapped his shoulder.
Dirk glanced at you, a smirk quickly forming. "Hey there darlin', need somethin'?"
You swallowed nervously. "Oh, no, I just wanted to say sorry for knocking you over and running off earlier." You muttered.
Dirk's smirk quickly morphed into a sly grin. "Hey, it was an accident, right? But if you really want to make it up to me..."
Before you could naively ask what he meant, his lips were on yours. The kiss was over as soon as it happened, giving you no time to respond or even process the fact that Dirk Strider was kissing you. Before you could recover, Dirk had already dashed off.
How the hell does he move so fast... You shook your head and decided to head home. You could always figure out what had happened later. You walked through the halls numbly, oblivious to the fact that the hallway was almost empty now after the end of school rush.
You paused at your locker, but before you could put in the combination, a hand slammed into the locker by your head. A squeak of surprise left your lips as you were pulled to face a group of Dirk's 'fan-girls.'
"Who the fuck do you think you are?" A tall red head demanded.
"Seriously, talking to Dirk like that-!" A brunette added.
"I-I what?" Your brain still wasn't up to speed. It couldn't think of a clever comeback, or really anything to say at all.
"Bitch, you better remember your place. You're just a nobody. Just because Dirk gives you a bit of special attention doesn't mean you can kiss him!"
"And you can't just run off after you fuck up to try and get him to chase you!"
"You wouldn't even be in that stupid student council without him!"
They kept yelling at you, though their words didn't really hurt. They weren't really cut out to be bullies if that was their best material. You sighed and yanked your arm away from the fan-girl that was holding it.
"That kiss didn't mean anything. I don't even know why he did it. It wasn't like I wanted him to kiss me or anything." Ok, so that was a bit of a lie, but you really didn't feel like dealing with these desperate girls any longer.
The red-head's eyes narrowed in fury. "Are you saying that Dirk isn't good enough for you? You, Miss Invisible, think you're too good for the Prince?" She demanded hysterically.
Oh shit.  Why couldn't you just keep your big fat mouth shut? You squeezed your eyes shut as she raised her hand to slap you. The slap rang through the hall, but the pain never reached you.
When you finally opened your eyes, you found yourself being protected by Dirk, who had a bright red handprint on his face now.  His fan-girls were all staring at him in shock, and the red-head looked close to tears.
"Why? Why would you want to protect her? What's so special about that nobody?" She whispered.
Dirk shrugged lightly. "She's a hell of a lot better than any of you. Now, if you'll excuse us..." Without missing a beat, he slung you over his shoulder and walked out of the school.
You couldn't process what was happening. A moment ago you were about to get beat up by a group of overzealous fan-girls, and now you were being carried away by the school prince.
"U-um, Dirk? Thanks for saving me and all, but I can walk on my own. Honest." You squeaked.
Dirk paused in the middle of the courtyard. For a moment, you were worried that he was going to ignore you. But then he sighed and sat you down, before pulling you into an awkward hug.
You blushed and tried to push him away. "D-Dirk! What-"
"Just stay here for a minute." He interrupted you. He buried his face in your hair with another sigh. "You know, it's grossly unfair that you made me promise to remember you, when you're the one that went off and forgot me."
"What are you talking about?" You were royally confused now. When had you made Dirk promise you anything, especially something like that?
Dirk snorted and held you at arm's length. He slowly removed his glasses, revealing his bright orange eyes. "It was the day before you went into fifth grade, if that helps." He prodded.
The combination of the date and his eyes sent long forgotten memories pouring into your mind.
You sat on a swing, waiting for your best friend to show up. You had agreed to meet up on the last day of summer vacation, and he was running late. You sighed and began spinning yourself.
The sound of running footsteps snapped you from your funk. You smiled and sprung from your seat, slightly dizzy. Your friend chuckled and caught you before you fell down.
"Woah, glad to see you're excited to see me." he teased.
You rolled your eyes and shoved him playfully. "Oh come on, Bro! You're late! 'Course I'm excited!" you whined.
'Bro' snorted and ruffled your hair. "Sorry 'bout that. Dave was being a pain and Dad wouldn't let me go 'till I played with him." he explained.
You pouted a bit, but couldn't stay annoyed with your spiky haired companion. You couldn't even be mad at his little brother. Instead, you nuzzled closer to Bro's chest.
"I don't want school to start again." you mumbled.
Bro sighed and patted your head. "I know the feel. It's gonna suck going to a different school than you." he agreed.
You frowned at that. You had almost forgotten that Bro would be starting middle school soon. You were going to be starting fifth grade. That plus the fact that your houses were no where near each other meant that you wouldn't get to see Bro very often anymore.
"Promise you won't forget about me?" You asked softly.
Bro started. "Forget you? Why're you worrying about that?" He demanded.
You crossed your arms and scowled up at him. "You're going to be busy and make a lot of new friends! You might forget your old friends, and that's not okay! So you gotta promise!" You reasoned.
Bro rolled his eyes, but held out his pinkie anyway. You happily wrapped your smaller pinky around his.
"I promise." He muttered.
"Bro?" You asked slowly.
Dirk grinned. "The one and only."
You blinked in shock. No wonder he had looked so familiar. "If it's so unfair, why didn't you ever, I dunno, tell me or something?" You demanded.
He blushed and looked away.  An awkward silence fell between you two, which quickly became unbearable. Finally, he turned back to you.
"Alright, so when you first got into Skaia High, I was going to go over and give you a hug and we'd go back to being the fucking bee's knees best friends or whatever. But then you did something I wasn't expecting. You went and got hot. Oh, and when I ran into you in the hall, you didn't remember me, which was a pretty big fucking blow, y'know?"
"So I figured you didn't need me hanging around. But I kept seeing you, and you hung out with Rosy, so Dave wouldn't stop talking about you, then you started hanging out with Jane, and I was just... surrounded with people talking about you. It made it pretty fucking hard to just forget you and go on with life. It just... I just..." He rubbed his face angrily, "I just fell in love with you all over again!"
Your heart lurched to a stop. Dirk was... confessing to you? No way. You must have misheard. It was hard enough to believe that he the same dorky boy you had played with in elementary school.
You chuckled nervously. "Very funny. So, who dared you to do this? Was it Cody? That jock never li-"
You were cut of  by a pair of lips crashing against your own. It lasted much longer than your last surprise kiss, and you found yourself melting into it. Eventually, you had to separate for air. Dirk pressed his forehead against yours with a smirk.
"You really should believe me. I don't lie about shit like that." He whispered.
You snorted. "You're such a romantic."
Romantic or not, you had a feeling you were going to have a great future with the prince of Skaia High.
I am so sorry that this took so long to get out. I've been suffering from some major writer's block lately, and I've had all these ideas but no clue how to write them and... yeah. But I'm a bit more inspired now, so I should be getting back on track.
I feel like there isn't enough Dirk in this. Arg. Oh well. I really hope you enjoy it.
